Walking In The Sneet

When I was a kid, we called the combination of snow and sleet, sneet. Not sure if that stuff has a name. What do you call the combination of sleet and ice – slice? I think both came down on Laurie and me today! We decided we didn’t want to let the gray skies and discouraging weather report prevent us from getting outside. But, instead of taking a chance on the reliability of slippery trails at our favorite park, we met at a gravel track. The trees are ice covered but the roads are not. However, the track proved to be fit only for the Canada Geese chilling there, so we left that location to them and walked in a nearby subdivision.

We lasted almost 7000 steps. Laurie is a lot fitter and several years younger than me, so it was I who called ‘Uncle’ after about 45 minutes in the hilly subdivision. It’s a pretty area, still bedecked with all sorts of holiday finery. We also discovered all manner of wild animal statuary which seems to be a subdivision signature. I will be bringing my grandchildren there when the weather is milder so we can go on a little safari. You just never know what you’re going to find when you go for a walk – even in the sneet!

Happy New Year, 2021!

  1. Last week when it was raining Tony and I walked in the parking garage at West County mall. The main level had a lot of traffic, but the upper levels were quite empty.
